2015年5月14日晚，川外学坛“学术大视野”教师讲堂在博文楼六楼报告厅如期举行。本次讨论的主题为西方文化传统中的‘向死而生’，主讲人是四川外国语大学科研处处长李小青教授。讲座由姜孟教授主持，部分青年教师、博士、硕士研究生近百人参加了本次学坛活动。
首先，2014级研究生宋开颜同学与大家分享了她精心挑选的两则箴言：“君子宽而不僈，廉而不刿，辨而不争，察而不激，直立而不胜，坚强而不暴。柔从而不流，恭敬谨慎而容，夫是谓至文。——《荀子•不苟篇》”；“博学，谓天地万物之理，修已治人之方，皆所当学。为学修己治人，有多少事在。如天文、地理、礼乐、制度、军旅、刑法，皆是着实有用之事业，无非自己本分内事。——朱熹”。借此启示大家在做人上要心胸宽广，恭敬谨慎并能宽容大度；在做学问上要广博专精，才能有所建树。
之后，李小青教授开始做主题报告。本次报告主要分为三个部分。首先，李小青教授从人类口语及书面语的历史发展阐释了语言和文化的关系，并指出语言是文化的创造者、传播者和发展者。随后，李教授通过结合神话故事妙趣横生地向大家解读了西方几大文明古国（美索不达米亚、埃及、希腊和罗马）看待“死亡”的差异及其成因。最后，李教授从个人主义和功利主义向我们解读了人的本性，并指出近代的虚无主义始于基督教信仰及传统价值观的式微和破灭，是西方文化发展到某一阶段后必然要出现的一种症状。李教授的讲座，旁征博引，精彩生动，内容详实，不仅深入地剖析了历史、宗教等因素对西方文化发展的影响，更形象地展现了西方文化传统的博大精深，为听众提供了一场听觉上的饕餮盛宴。
接下来是自由讨论阶段。在场的同学和老师就自己的疑惑和李教授进行了互动，现场气氛十分活跃。姜孟教授对这次讲座给予了高度评价，他认为李教授的讲座主题分明，在带领我们俯瞰“五大文明”、“四大哲学”的同时，也通过历史故事的阐释向我们介绍了“向死而生”哲学思想的核心——用死亡来约束生活。李教授的报告使我们感受到要用思想的活性和精神的理性来克服知识的贫乏；一个人的行为要系统，就要有持久的信仰、独立的思想和稳定的价值体系。
本次学坛活动在持久热烈的掌声中圆满结束。

entitled “being-toward-death’in the tradition of western culture” held successfully
at 7 p.m., may 15th2015, the sisu academic forum was held successfully as scheduled. hosted by professor jiang meng, the report entitled "‘being-toward-death’ in the tradition of western culture" wasgiven by prof. li xiaoqing, the director of research department at sisu. more than one hundred postgraduates attended the wonderful report.
as usual, two mottoes were shared by the postgraduate song kaiyan, which benefited and enlightened all the audience greatly.
then, prof. li xiaoqing began her excellent report. this report was composed of three parts. in the first part, prof. li expounded the relationship between language and culture from the perspective of the development of spoken and written english in the human history. she pointed out that language has created, transmitted and developed culture. after that, prof. li interpreted the history, geography, politics, religion and philosophy of several ancient western countries (including mesopotamia, egypt, greek, roman) and discussed the differences and reasons of their attitudes towards death by combining fairy tales explanation. finally, prof. li analyzed the human nature from individualism, secularism, utilitarianism and criticism and she pointed out that nihilism originated from the evaporation of christian faith. prof. li’ s lecture was profound and well documented which not only deeply analyzed the influence of history, religion on the development of western culture but also vividly presented the extensiveness and profoundness of western traditional culture, providing a spiritual feast for the audience.
after the report, the students and teachers exchanged opinions with prof. li. prof. jiang meng spoke highly of the lecture. he thought that the topic of prof. li’s report is clear, guiding us to know about the five ancient civilizations and four philosophies and meanwhile interpretating the core of philosophical idea of “being-toward-death”, that is, to constrain our life with death. besieds, prof. li’s lecture let us know that the poverty of knowledge could be overcame by the vigor of thought and the rational spirit. therefore, a systemic human behavior needs lasting faith, independent thought and stable value system.
this report ended in a cheerful atmosphere with a great success.
